ISF will provide an international forum for all researchers and developers engaged at the IS/IT interface areas. Both applied and theoretical research will be promoted and the journal actively seeks submissions from all over the globe. ISF is managed by an executive editorial board with the guidance of an editorial advisory group. Both groups are comprised of eminent individuals from both academia and industry. Four issues of the journal will be published each year. Three of these issues will be focussed on dedicated special topics in the IS/IT interface areas, and the fourth on general submissions on any interface. Each dedicated issue will be guest-edited, and the general issue will be edited by the executive editorial board. The reasons for this organization are to provide a clear focus in each dedicated issue due to the diversity in the interface areas, develop a structural organization of all ISF issues along the IS/IT frontier areas and to enable researchers to submit their significant works without necessarily having to wait for an appropriate special issue to appear on the horizon. In addition, each special issue could also carry a section of papers on general submissions that may fall outside the scope of the issue's theme. Contributions solicited for submissions to both special and general issues would include: research papers, surveys, tutorials, industry papers on designs, solutions and experiences, case studies, technical innovation papers, commentaries on the state-of-the-art and discussions on open problems/potential initiatives. The contributions should address any combination of the following requirements, but are not limited to: theory development, modeling and analysis, computational and empirical studies, perspectives that synthesize recent developments in an interface subfield, state-of-the-art surveys and academic/practitioner reviews of challenges, accomplishments and lessons learned in practical IS work . The editorial policy is to thoroughly review each paper by at least three qualified reviewers. The authors will be asked to submit final versions of accepted papers electronically. Proposals for the dedicated issues are actively solicited. Each proposal will be thoroughly refereed by at least three qualified reviewers. When a proposal is accepted, the proposer will be asked to constitute his/her own team of associate editors, solicit, review, process and finalize on the submissions in consultation with the editors-in-chief. The special issue editors should develop their issues with a balanced mix of articles along the dimensions of article type and focus described above. The general issue will be produced by the executive editorial board, assisted by a team of eminent associate editors drawn from academia and industry. The general issue will also periodically include relevant and important items such as book reviews, research/practice at universities/companies, unsolved research problems, topics for doctoral work, and other challenges at the IS interfaces. The content of papers submitted to the general issue may address more than one interface area. The executive board will seek a good balance of papers from different areas to be included in every general issue. Similarly, the board will also seek a good balance of topics among the special issues.
Finally, the Internet has much to offer in augmenting the publication mechanisms and supporting the journal objectives. We will employ the Internet as a complementary media of dissemination and provide viable and efficient services to the journal readership. Our website is growing and continues to enhance its information access services. This site will grow significantly over time and we have several services in the pipeline for implementation.
